We’re moving!

we're moving | rhianna olivia

I was gonna title this post something super clickbait like “BIG NEWS” or something, but I decided against it. I’ll probably be super click bait in all my social promo though, ha #NoRagrets.

Those who have followed me for a while will know our struggle with flying the nest. I moved out during University (spending 3 years in the wonderful city of Nottingham) and moved back home after graduating. Not long after, I moved in with Joe and his parents. (Not because I didn’t want to live with my parents, but because I wanted to live with Joe and it was easier for us both to get to work from his parents’ place.)

I’ve written about my career/work history a few times on this blog and, as most of you will know, I was redundant for 6 months last year. Annoyingly, I lost my job just as we were thinking about moving out and renting our own place. I’d got out of my student overdraft, we could afford it, it felt like the right time.

Then I lost my job, so, obviously, it wasn’t the best time to move.

Because I was out of work for 6 months, I got pretty deep back into my overdraft and moving out became another distant memory. It’s now been about 18 months since I first moved in with Joe and his parents, and I can officially say we’re moving out.

(To be clear, we’re renting – not buying. Lol, I ain’t made of money.)

It’s all been a bit sudden because as much as we’d planned on moving out soon, we’d also planned on getting Christmas out of the way and not moving until the new year.

BUT a few weeks ago, the most gorgeous flat came up. It was in budget, in the perfect area, 2 bedrooms, all new, very *blogger* and we totally loved it. We kind of thought fuck it, let’s book a viewing! But someone got there first.

But, because we were gutted, we just continued to look. On the off chance something else came up we loved. Because we’d kind of realised we didn’t *have* to wait until the new year if we didn’t want to.

The original flat we liked was in a rennovated pub, and when we were driving past we noticed there was definitely more than one flat in there. Excited, I emailed the letting agency asking if we could be informed if the first floor flat became available.

About a week later, I got a call.

The first floor flat was available, and not only was it available but it was even nicer than the other flat. Bigger, lighter, prettier, with a BATH and gorgeous little details like fireplaces in the lounge and the main bedroom. We went for a viewing and fell head-over-heels. We were worried we wouldn’t be able to take the cat with us (or, at least, would have to sneak him in) but yesterday, I got a call to say we’d been accepted. Cat included.

So, we pick up the keys on the 1st December.

One month today.

I have a lot of lists to write.

Moving forward, I’m super excited what this is going to do for my content. There will be moving vlogs, interior posts and definitely a lot more recipes ’round these parts. I’ll no doubt be blogging about the move, and keeping you all updated on social media, so keep your eyes peeled!

We’re finally going to have our own little space, and honestly this has been such a long time coming I’m getting a little teary at the thought.

(If anyone has any super top tips for moving into your first *proper* place, I’m all ears!)

Rhianna, I’m so happy for you & Joe!! I’ve been a “silent reader”, as creepy as that sounds, for ages but I just wanted to let you know I’m so excited for you guys to have a wee place of your own! Congratulations!

I have been there before when you fall in love with a home and someone else ends up getting it, but it always works out for the best and you find something even better like you did. It was meant to be! & a bath is a biiiiiiig bonus, think of all the LUSH bath bombs <3

Moving into a new home is literally the most excited and happiest I think I have ever been so enjoy it all! I hope you are gonna be uploading lots of moving vlogs and homeware hauls :)

Big congrats! Flat hunting can be so stressful so the fact that you’ve had such a positive result is definitely something to celebrate! X

Eeek! This is less than a month now and I feel like I’m getting just as excited for you! I genuinely can’t wait to see more of the place/what you and Joe decide to do with it!! xxx

How exciting!! It’ll be so nice for you, when we left London we spent 7 months with my parents and as grateful as we were, we both couldn’t wait to have our own space again.

Ohhhh, this is such good news and right in time for Christmas too! Cannot wait to see how you and Joe make your wee new place your own <3

Oh Rhianna this is so exciting! I’m trying to think of some tips to give you, but I definitely agree with others saying to not buy too much until you move in. We bought way too much stuff the first day and ended up hating a lot of it as they were ‘stress buys’. We’ve been slowly getting rid of pieces (lounges, desks, etc) and bringing in new bits for the past three years and its a bloody process, lemme tell ya.

Also – takeaway is your BFF. Don’t even stress about trying to cook or anything like that. #treatyoself.

Can’t wait to see the new place!

I’m so excited for you! What an amazing thing to happen, must be stressful with christmas coming up but sounds like the perfect thing for you!I know how annoying it is not being able to move out and not having your own space as such. Well done for finding somewhere so perfect for you both.

My boyfriend and I moved into our place in September and it has been a dream come true, I’m so excited for you and I’m sure you’ll have so much fun buying all of the stuff for your new home!

Woo! So exciting! My top tip is get loads of those blue Ikea bags!! You can carry so much in them ☺️☺️ We moved into our first place in 2015 and moved again last year and those bags are life savers!! And the zip up ones! Boxes are great but to be honest they’re a nightmare to get rid of afterwards!! Xx

CONGRATS!! I have just moved to Toronto, we lived with basically a mattress on the floor for a month because we’d spent all of our money actually moving into the flat (we’re renting too but had to put down 3 months rent in advance!) But now it’s coming together and I love it, it is stressful but you can build it up slowly and writing lists is a great idea. We wrote lists and how much the item cost next to it and then ordered it in priority (a little too far? maybe, but it worked)

Good luck and I can’t wait to see more xx

I am SO bloody happy for you lovely! My top tip would be not to buy too much until you’re in – we changed our mind so much on decor once we’d actually settled in and got a feel for what kind of space we wanted to create :) x

I second this plan!!! I thought we were so set with what we were going to do and only didn’t buy anything cos I didn’t have the space to store it until we got there. All our design plans have done a complete 180 in the month since we’ve been here, so it’s definitely worth waiting!! x

  18. 1st November 2017 / 9:24 am

Congratulations! It was obviously meant to be, I’m so pleased for you both! Lists are great, I had so many lists when we moved into our first place, my advice would be to take things a room at a time, and take your time with it to get it really ‘you’ :) xx

  19. 1st November 2017 / 9:08 am

Ahhhh lucky you! Well done and hope all goes smoothly with the move :)

Yay that’s so exciting!! I’d say don’t bother buying too much until you’re actually in there. It’s not until you’re in that you really get a true feeling for it and what will fit/work! Obviously get the main bits that you absolutely need, like a bed!! And lists are the best thing, just to get your head around all the bills that need setting up and so on! Good luck xx

Aw so happy for you lovely!
There’s nothing that makes you more content then living with your other half in your own place!

Can’t wait to see pictures :) xxx
