If you follow me on social media or, you know, read my blog on the regs, you’ll have already seen that Joe and I were invited to spend a weekend in Chester with Roomzzz a couple of weeks ago. (I wrote all about *actual* Chester and how flipping amazing it is a few days ago. You NEED to add it to the top of you UK city break list pronto).
Today I wanted to give you a little insight into the hotel we stayed in, because I’ve had so many questions about it. So here you go! A good old classic hotel review is incoming.
The “Aparthotel” style
So first off, Roomzzz Chester isn’t a standard hotel. It’s an Aparthotel. This basically means it’s somewhere in the middle of a hotel and an apartment (duh). Depending on the type of stay you’re after, you’ll either love this or hate this.
I personally think it’s great, especially for a break which is 2 nights or longer, because you have the freedom of an apartment (kitchenette included) with the amenities of a hotel. That said, if I were to stay somewhere for one night, I personally prefer boutique hotels for a bit of a treat.
We stayed in a Grande Studio room and absolutely adored it. It was a great size, had a rain shower and a kitchenette with all the essentials.
On top of that, it had a TV on a bracket you could spin round. Meaning you could watch telly on the sofa, then swizzle it round and watch it from bed. I could definitely get used to having a TV right at the foot of the bed.
Also, the bathroom had underfloor heating and it was THE DREAM <3 <3
The bed was incredibly comfortable but the pillows were not, which was a shame as it meant I didn’t get the best night’s sleep. But I can imagine it would be a simple fix of asking for another pillow or two, which we just couldn’t be bothered doing.
My only issue with Chester as a whole, is that the train station feels miles away from the centre. We decided to walk to the hotel so we could get our bearings and I’m glad we did, but it was also a bit of a trek.
That said, the hotel itself is SO central. It’s right next to the walls and only a couple of minutes walk from the main street in Chester. It meant nipping back to the hotel to drop off shopping, or to get changed, was really easy and took no time at all. The location was absolutely perfect for us.
It’s worth mentioning Uber didn’t seem to be available in Chester, but the taxi rank at the train station seemed well stocked with cars and I don’t think they’re too expensive.
Breakfast to go
One of my favourite parts of the hotel was the little touches they offered. Downstairs there was an “Essentials” shop where you could buy everything from snacks to dishwasher tablets. And because it’s staffed 24/7, you can get whatever you need whenever you need it.
You could go down and make tea and coffee whenever you wanted and, on a morning, they offered a “Breakfast To Go” option. There was hot drinks, juices, pastries and more, and you could grab what you wanted (at no extra cost) to either eat/drink downstairs in the lobby area or take back up to your rooms. It was a really nice touch.
The Roomzzz Aparthotel in Chester is amazingly central, reasonably priced and cosy af. The pillows were uncomfortable, but I can imagine this is an easy fix, the beds were VERY comfortable and they really go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay.
Would I stay again? Without a second thought.
