Remembering what is important | AD

This is a sponsored post written in collaboration with Nomination.

2018 has been an incredibly strange year so far. It’s had the highest of highs, but also the lowest of lows.

Something I find is rarely talked about is supporting loved ones through difficult times. I’ve talked in the past about things happening to me, but it’s a totally different ball game when people you love need your support. This year I’ve had to be strong for those closest to me at points when I was a little concerned there was no strength left in me to give, and it’s times like these that remind me of how grateful I am for so many things in my life.

A few weeks ago, Nomination got in contact with me asking if I’d like to work with them. For those who don’t know who Nomination are, they do the most beautiful jewellery and they’re best known for their composable bracelets. They’re sort of like charm bracelets in that you can totally personalise them, but they’re totally unique in how they’re put together because they’re more like links than charms.

After such a strange year, I was really into the idea of having a piece of jewellery I could wear that was personal to me and a constant reminder of what is important to me. I took a trip to their Leeds branch (which is located at The White Rose shopping centre, and they also have a branch in Wakefield if that’s closer to you!) and chose a bracelet and some composable links that I knew would serve as a reminder of the things I’m most grateful for if I’m ever struggling.

So… what did I choose?

My first choice was a link with the letter ‘J’ on it. Joe and I have been together for almost 10 years and he’s the one person I go to for absolutely everything. He’s my rock, my person and I couldn’t have put this bracelet together without having a charm dedicated to him on it.

The next charm I chose has a rose gold heart with a little paw print on it. I love animals, and there’s nothing that makes me feel happier than coming home from a long day to the cat purring away and giving me some cuddles or going to my Mum and Dad’s to see the dog’s face when I show up. Pets have such a calming presence on me, and I want to always remember that.

I then chose a small embellished Taurus symbol. Over the past year or so, I’ve delved into astrology, birth charts, signs etc. I know a lot of people think it’s absolute tosh, but it really gives me a sense of identity and something to relate to. The whole thing grounds me and helps me remember how small we are in the grand scheme of things. It makes any problem seem more manageable when you think about it comparatively.

Along the same sort of lines, I also chose a Pink Aventurine stone, encased in a gorgeous rose gold “nest”. Pink Aventurine is known to be a calming stone and one said to remove feelings of being trapped in situations. It’s also supposed to facilitate creative inspiration and practicality, so I think this choice kind of speaks for itself. The stone was also in Nominations ‘family’ section, so it’s nice to have something dedicated to my amazing family.

Lastly, I chose a pair of dropped links. I love how they give the bracelet a bit of depth and I chose them as a pair because they’re sort of linked. Both charms with eye-like symbols and the Hamsa are thought to repel the curse/legend of the Evil Eye in several cultures dating back centuries. Something I’d like to remember is how to protect and care for myself, something I’ve got a lot better at over the years, and I think these two charms sum that up perfectly.

It makes me so happy to know if I’m ever feeling overwhelmed, sad or anxious, I’ll have something on my wrist filled with reminders and things I can draw strength from.

I think Nomination is such a great idea for a gift, too. They have charms for occasions like bridesmaids, new parents, graduations, birthdays, all sorts. And, it makes for easy gift shopping in the future if you know someone already has a bracelet. I’m a sucker for a personalised gift so I know I’d love anything like this!

If you’re looking to treat someone (or yourself) to a bracelet, definitely head in store. The staff are so wonderful, helpful and filled with advice on which links to buy and how to arrange them on the bracelet. They’re also running a special offer in October – if you spend £35 on links, you get the bracelet for free!

What do you think of personalised jewellery? What reminders/mementos would you like to carry with you on your wrist? Let me know in the comments! And a big thanks to Nomination for offering me this opportunity!
