If you follow me on Instagram (and watch my Instagram Stories), you’ll have seen that last week I went to the opening of the new Models Own Leeds store and came home with quite a few goodies to try out.
I went through everything I came away with on Instagram Stories, but didn’t go into to TOO much detail because I knew I’d be writing this post. I’m not going to spend too much time introducing the post in general because I have a feeling it’s going to be a long one.
(Edit: holy crap this post is so long. Go do yourself a favour – pause here, go make a cuppa, then come back and read.)
(Got a cuppa? Awesome. Let’s go.)
Basically, we went to the store opening, were given incredible goody bags AND gifted everything we’d stuck in our baskets with the intention to buy. It was one of the best events I’ve ever been to and they’re one of the most generous brands I’ve ever worked with. And on top of that, the makeup is INCREDIBLE. Like, seriously life-changing, especially for the fantastic price. I’d never used anything from Models Own before this event and it’s safe to say I am an absolute convert.
If you want to know a quick summary of the products I think are an absolute must-have, skip to the end and I’ll do just that for you – I appreciate not everyone wants to read a ten million word essay about makeup and just want some quick recs. You’re welcome <3
I’m going to split this mahoosive haul/review sesh into sections purely for ease, so let’s get into it shall we??
Top to bottom: Coral Fresh, Candy Cane, Pink Mint, Red Velvet, Laser Lilac
I came home with five lip products – two I received in my goody bag and three I chose for myself. Seeing as it’s coming up to Spring, I chose some brighter shades and there are definitely some shades I do NOT currently own.
The lipgloss is the most incredible colour you’ve ever seen in your life whilst it’s in the tube – a holographic purple with shades of blue and green coming out when it hits the light. You know when you’re in a car park and it’s raining and there’s oil on the floor under a car? It looks kind of like a floor rainbow and you can’t stop staring at it because it’s so pretty? It’s like that. When it’s actually applied, it’s nowhere near as dramatic (which could be a good thing or a bad thing whichever way you look at it), but I assume that’s because it’s a lipgloss rather than a lipstick. It’s absolutely stunning – I never would have been brave enough to pick it up myself so I’m really glad they stuck this in our goody bags.
The Lix Velvet Liquid Lipstick is lovely – I actually didn’t realise it was a liquid lippie until I opened it, because the tube/bullet looks like an actual lipstick. The colour is a gorgeous, slightly orange toned pillarbox red and it feels so nice on the lips! The pigmentation isn’t as great as the lipsticks I’m about to talk about, it took a couple of coats to get a solid colour (as you might be able to see in the below swatches), but it stayed on for hours and the colour is just divine. Also, it smells like caramel and I am obsessed.
The stars of the show for me are the three products I chose for myself. They’re all Lix Matte Liquid Lipsticks and I chose the shades Pink Mint 06, Coral Fresh 03 and Candy Cane 08. Pink Mint is a BRIGHT fuschia pink and I’m absolutely in love with it. I wore it to an event on Wednesday night that involved lots of food and lots of drink, it stayed absolutely flawlessly and I got SO many compliments on it both in person and when I posted a quick selfie on Instagram Stories.
The other two are equally as gorgeous colours but both very different. Coral Fresh is what it says on the tin – a beautiful coral (that will also be perfect for Spring/Summer). I feel like this is one of those shades that will just suit every single skin tone, it’s so SO pretty. Candy Cane is, in essence, a dark red. I wouldn’t quite call it a berry tone, but if you’re looking for a darker toned colour and aren’t brave enough to go TOO out of the box, this one will be perfect for you. OR if you’re bored of a classic red and want to mix it up a bit!
Top to bottom: Bronzing powder in Light Golden Brown 03, Highlight Powder in Peach Pearl 02, Matte Powder Blusher in Sienna 03
(Oh my god this post is so long I’m so sorry)
Okay, first off, we were gifted a contouring brush in our goody bags that had our NAMES ENGRAVED ON THEM. And mine is spelled right. Kudos to Models Own for basically the best Instagram prop in the world ever. Also in our goody bags was the Sculpt & Glow Shimmer Bronzing Powder in the shade Light Golden Brown 03. If I’m 100% honest, I think this might be a tad too dark for my skin tone, but I will get back to you on that one when I’ve properly put it on my face, because I haven’t had chance to use it properly yet.
Except for those, I chose everything else in this section and BOY we have a couple of real stars here.
First up is the Rock ‘n’ Rosy Matte Powder Blusher in the shade Sienna 03. For me, this is the epitome of an every day blush shade. It’s a soft pink, totally matte and just compliments my skintone ideally. It blends like a dream and you only need the smallest amount. It looks so natural on, the only thing I can compare it to is a matte version of the infamous Orgasm blush from NARS. I completely and utterly adore it.
Then we have the Flawless Under Eye Concealer. It does what it says on the tin – it’s fantastic at brightening under the eyes. I don’t really know what else to say about this one except I love it! The formula is lovely, too – no under eye creasing! I also picked up a Concealer brush to use with my normal face concealer and it’s beautiful – so soft and blends flawlessly.
Last is quite possibly my favourite product from the whole shop. The Sculpt & Glow Highlighter Powder in the shade Peach Pearl 02. Guys. It’s true love. I actually saw one of the girls who worked at Models Own wearing it as soon as I came in, asked her what it was and picked it up instantly. It’s a peachy pink toned highlighting powder, it looks BEAUTIFUL on the skin and it’s quite natural, too – or as natural as an intense glow can look – I think it’s because it’s not glittery, it’s shimmery. So it doesn’t look like you’ve smeared glitter on your face, it gives you an actual glow. It’s taken over my love of my dear Mary Lou-Manizer, so that says it all really.
Left column, top to bottom: Luster, Opaline, Prismatic, Nacreaous, Matte Brown
Right column, top to bottom: Vivid, 3D, Deep Sea, Luminous, Matte Black
We’re onto the last section! YAY! Seriously though sorry this post is so long, who knew I had it in me??
It’s now time to talk about eye products. In my goodie bag I had the Holochrome Eyeshadow Palette, the i-Definer Waterproof Kohl Pencil in the shade Silver Sparkle 03 and the MyShadow Eyeshadow Dust in the shade Hot Fuschia 06.
The Eyeshadow palette is absolutely stunning. It’s mainly shimmer and glitter shades, with two matte shades (a black and a purple/brown shade). The colour payoff isn’t the best I’ve ever come across, but because a lot of the shades are so glittery, it’s understandable. Also, I can imagine they’ll be better with some primer. My favourite shade in the pan is Nacreous, a bright copper, but my favourite shade actually applied is Opaline, a holographic dark purple. Prismatic is also gorgeous – it would be perfect to use as a highlight in the corner of the eyes.
I don’t really use Kohl Pencils, but Silver Sparkle is gorgeous – a bright white with sliver flecks. I think I’m going to have a bit of an internet search to see what would be the best use for it because I’m pretty clueless to be honest. Give me any ideas in the comments plz <3
The MyShadow Eyeshadow Dust is STUNNING. It gives me serious Barry M Dazzledust flashbacks in the best possible way, I’m definitely going to be picking up some more shades. I have a Two Faced primer especially for loose glitter so I’m really excited to create some looks with that!
But, the real star of the show is something I picked up as soon as I entered the shop. I saw it on the Models Own Instagram a few days earlier and I’m so happy I’ve bought it. The Colour Chrome Eyeshadow in the shade Copper Lustre. It’s a tiny pot of eyeshadow that has a really thick, creamy consistency and the payoff is INSANE. It comes with a primer and a little tray, so you can mix together the raw product with the primer to create as intense a look as you like, but honestly guys this product is just beautiful. You can’t even really tell how beautiful it is in the below swatch, so here’s a link to a Boomerang I stuck on Twitter so you can understand.

Oh my god this post is over 1700 words long I’M NOT EVEN SORRY. I’m a total Models Own convert and, to be honest, I can’t wait to head back into store and pick up even more. Because not only are the products on the whole AMAZING, but they’re so reasonably priced. It’s like getting high end quality makeup for a high street price and I couldn’t love that any more.
Have you ever tried anything from Models Own? (Other than the nail polishes!)
