I’m pretty sure you’ll all have heard of DECIEM already. “The Abnormal Beauty Brand” AKA the brand that has been floating about the blogosphere for months now. I had never actually heard of them before they emailed me a few months back (or several, I’ve been a terrible blogger recently I’M SORRY) but within a few days, they were absolutely everywhere.
Between the “yeah cool I’d love to come meet you for a drink and chat about your products” and the actual meeting, the excitement had definitely built. I went from not even knowing how to say DECIEM (dess-ee-em just FYI) to hardly sleeping with excitement to discuss their products in a matter of days.
And, let’s just say the excitement was definitely worth it. These few little products have absolutely transformed my skin.
Back to the beginning. I went for a meeting in Leeds with someone from the DECIEM team and I had an absolute blast! It was really interesting to hear about the brand and their ethos – which, by the way is just fantastic. DECIEM is an umbrella brand that houses about 10 beauty brands ranging from the most budget friendly to a *little* more high end, meaning there’s literally a product for everyone. They don’t focus on fancy packaging, fancy names or fancy promises – rather on the actual products, what’s in them, what they’ll do and why they’re amazing.
I love them.
I talked for what felt like hours about all the brands and my wishlist of products is still the length of my arm, but today I’m talking to you about the 5 products that have changed my life. I’m not even exaggerating – my skin hasn’t been this good since before I hit puberty.
There are two “types” of products mentioned in this post – beauty and skincare. So, we’ll start with beauty.
The Hylamide Photography Foundation is nothing short of incredible. It’s fairly low coverage, mainly because I chose the shade ‘transparent’ as I’m so pale, meaning I only use it on it’s own on VERY good skin days. Usually I’ll mix it in with a foundation or BB Cream and it just makes my skin look flawless. It was described to me as ‘an Instagram filter but in real life’ and that’s exactly what it is! It works especially well in direct light and in photos – hence the name!
The Ordinary’s High-Adherence Silicone Primer is my new favourite primer. My makeup stays put, it makes my skin super smooth and makes any foundation apply like an absolute dream. I like it just as much as my original bae, Benefit’s Porefessional, except this one only costs £3.90.
THREE POUNDS NINTEY.
Did I forget to mention how flipping cheap The Ordinary is? Your mind is seriously about to be blown.
Now for the good bit – the skincare that has legitimately changed my life.
It’s important to note that because everything in their skincare ranges are so ~scientific~, you’ll need to do your research into what will work for your skin. I have the most nightmare skin in the world – it’s oily as hell in the t-zone, slightly dry on my nose sometimes, normal on my cheeks, extremely blemish prone and also sensitive.
So, here’s what I’ve been using.
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% is my absolute saviour. (See what I said about the no-bullshit product names?) It’s cleared my spots, evened out my skintone and texture, got rid of any congestion and reduced how oily it is by a pretty big deal. AND IT’S ONLY £5. I use it every morning and every night after cleansing and toning, before moisturising.
I also use Hylamide’s Booster, C25 every now and again. When I was talking to DECIEM about which products would be good for my skin, I decided upon Niacinamide and the C25 booster but was warned that because of the ingredients, they cancel each other out. So I was advised to use the Niacinamide more often as my skin needed it more, then once or twice a week, swap it out for the C25 booster. So once a week, I’ll swap Niacinamide for Booster, C25 and use that day and night for a day or two instead. The vitamin C really perks up my skin (especially when it’s colder weather) and makes me feel so glowy.
The last skincare thing isn’t really skincare as such, it’s more of a treatment to me. The Caffeine Solution 5% +egcg is nothing short of a miracle worker for anyone with under-eye puffiness and dark circles. I challenge you to buy it (it’s only £5.80. Like, seriously) and only apply it to one eye at first to see the difference. Because there genuinely is a visible difference. I use this morning and night and also use an eye cream to moisturise the area as the caffeine is a little drying.
Honestly, I can’t even tell you how much of a difference these products have made to my skin! If you want to buy some bits from DECIEM, have a search on their website. Every product has really handy information in the description so you’ll be able to know straight away if it will work for you or not. I also believe that most of their products are vegan, too! But, again, it will tell you in the description.
Thanks DECIEM for opening my eyes to how my skin works and erasing all the bullshit that comes with modern day skincare. You guys are the best.
*All products mentioned in this post were gifted to me by DECIEM, but all words, opinions and crazy fangirling is 100% my own.
