I think a lack of energy is something everyone has struggled with at some point in their life. It can be for a variety of reasons – mental health issues, stress, lack of sleep, just being plain busy, some sort of deficiency or just because. I know I often struggle with it, no matter how much sleep I get. Well, today I’m talking you through some things you can try to boost your energy levels and leave you ready to take on the day.
(Just FYI, I’m not a doctor and low energy can be warning signs of things like mental health issues, deficiencies and more. So don’t take this as a legit medical opinion and if you’re really worried about your energy levels, go have a chat with your GP.)
Sleep. This seems like a pretty obvious one, but you’ve got to get your sleep in if you don’t want to feel like a zombie. I’m a right grumpy cow if I don’t get at least 7-8 hours kip.
Exercise regularly. Exercise releases endorphins that leave you feeling happy and energised. I know whenever I exercise regularly, I feel 10x the person I do when I’m being a sloth.
Tea. I’m not talking the caffeinated kind, either. (Although that does work too, ngl.) Maintain a healthy (ish) diet. Cutting sugar from my diet hit me HARD. Like, seriously hard. I felt sluggish all the time, moody, sad, it was like full blown withdrawl. Scary stuff, right? Now, I haven’t cut it completely from my diet but I have drastically cut down. And along with eating more greens and just generally healthier, it’s given my general energy levels a nice ol’ boost.
Power nap. I am the world’s worst napper. Fact. But, I’ve heard this works for some people so I don’t know, maybe give it a shot?
Meditation. I personally love the Calm app and they have a meditation session for energy. When I remember to do a session on a morning it leaves me feeling so much better for the rest of the day – I’m convinced mindfulness/meditation is the future of everyone’s happiness. It’s like magic.
Water. Since starting eating healthier, I’ve also been drinking more water. 3L-4L a day to be precise. And oh ma lawd it has done wonders for me! My skin looks amazing, my energy levels have been boosted, I’m less bloated and it’s just amazing go have a glass of water right now.
Stretch it out. Even just some simple at-your-desk stretches can boost your energy levels. These are my faves!
Look into the light. Stop sitting in the dark with your curtains closed and let some light in. Daylight affects your body clock, if you sit in the dark you WILL be sleepier. Fact. If you want, you can invest in one of those cool daylight alarm lights too.
