Slam Dunk Festival is SO CLOSE.
It’s basically my favourite day of the entire year. This will be our 8th year and that makes me feel so old I kind of want to vomit.
In case you weren’t already aware, I’m really into music. (lol where have you been?) Especially live music. I live for festivals and gigs, Joe lives for festivals and gigs, it’s kind of our thing. I feel like I don’t talk about music enough on the blog for how much I actually adore it, maybe I should fix that?
For me there’s just no feeling like standing in a crowd of people, singing in unison at the top of your lungs until your voice goes hoarse, to your favourite band/song. It’s just so special.
Anyway, Slam Dunk Festival is super close and I’m SO excited about it this year – some of my favourite bands are going to be there and we barely have any clashes! #Lucky. So, today, I’m giving you a list of bands to see at Slam Dunk Festival this year (if you’re going, of course). (And if you are going, come say hi if you see me! I’m going to be at Slam Dunk North, obviously.)
We Are The Ocean
Can we just take a moment to be sad that this will be the last time I ever see We Are The Ocean? I’ve loved them for so many years I can’t even remember how/when I started liking them. This set is going to be equal parts amazing and sad. If you’ve never seen them before, make this your time because it will be your last chance and THAT VOICE.
Cute Is What We Aim For
Even the idea of seeing Cute Is What We Aim For live is giving me SERIOUS flashbacks to my teen years. Joe introduced me to this particular band not long after we got together and I instantly fell in love with their album ‘The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch’. Which, coincidentally, they’re playing IN FULL at Slam Dunk this year. My 15 year old self is going to die from all the pop punk.
Oh, Deaf Havana. I am SO happy their most recent album, ‘All These Countless Nights’, is so good. The album before it just wasn’t to my taste at all and I was gutted because I’m a usually a big Deaf Havana fan. Joe and I have followed them since back in the day when Ryan Mellor was still part of the band and I feel like I’ve really grown up with them. They’re always fantastic live, so I have high hopes!
Oh god you guys I can’t cope. Madina Lake are back. And rumour has it, they could be playing ‘From Them, Through Us, To You’ in full and oh my god my tiny little emo heart can’t take it. I’ve actually already seen this album in full on their farewell tour a while back, so whether they play it or not I’ll be loving life, wondering when I blinked and turned 24.
SO MUCH PUNK. If you don’t know who Against Me! are then you need to listen to them because they are like the band of my 70s punk dreams but alive, kicking and performing now in 2017. Laura Jane Grace is the most inspirational person, their music is INCREDIBLE and the show they put on live is just mind-blowing. I know they clash with a lot of popular bands with them headlining their stage, but oh my GOD please don’t miss them.
Jeez, writing this post has got me excited! Make sure you’re following me on Instagram, because I will 100% be Instagram Story-ing the whole day. It’s going to be ACE.
Slam Dunk will be taking over Leeds, Hatfield and Birmingham over the May Bank Holiday weekend! Leeds and Hatfield are sold out, but check their website to pick up tickets to Slam Dunk Midlands in Birmingham!
And I know I’ve already said it, but please definitely come say hi if you see me at Slam Dunk North!
